When it comes to irons, while Titleist has built its reputation on players irons, the company’s one true game-improvement offering, the AP1, has been its best-selling iron for the last several years. Brand new from Titleist are the ladies 718 AP1 irons, which should again prove to be a huge success, as they’re offering golfers even more distance and forgiveness than their predecessors. Fueling that performance is a progressive set construction, as the 4- and 5-iron are now fully hollow, which enabled engineers to move weight to the perimeter to enhance forgiveness while also creating a low, deep CG positions for higher launch and more impact stability.
Additionally, the use of more than 55 grams of tungsten weighting in the toe of the long and mid irons is further helping to increase both launch and MOI. Also of note, a thinner clubface construction and the use of stainless steel face inserts are creating faster ball speeds from all impact locations, which is leading to distance gains of between 3 and 6 yards throughout the set. The new 718 AP1 women’s irons are being offered with the high-launching Mitsubishi Tensei Red graphite as a stock shaft.
Ideal for
Ladies of all ability levels. From a playability standpoint, the 718 AP1 irons have the performance attributes that golfers need to have more fun and hit better iron shots when they play, and that starts with more distance, higher launch conditions, and ample forgiveness. That combination is a recipe to hit more greens, which will undoubtedly equate to better scores. All that said, however, for a true game-improvement iron, the 718 AP1 has a clean, classic shape that will appeal to some lower-handicappers, which means it’s a good bet that AP1 will continue to be Titleist’s best-selling iron.
